What changed

Changes that affect merchants, newest first.

30 August 2026

The chat widget is now a theme app embed. It used to be injected with Shopify's ScriptTag API, which Shopify stops accepting on 1 October 2026 and stops running altogether on 1 March 2027. You now switch it on from your theme editor with one button, and nothing to copy or paste.

Two things get better along the way: the widget can now see the logged-in customer, so conversations, likes and cart are tied to the real person instead of an anonymous session; and if you already had the old install, it keeps working until you activate the new one — the two never load twice.

Promotional emails now carry an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing stops promotions on every channel, not just email. Customers who did not accept marketing in Shopify no longer receive them at all.

Connecting a store no longer asks for your domain. You install from Shopify and the store links itself.

Earlier

Back-in-stock notices now go out on the channel the customer asked from — the chat on your storefront included — instead of email only.

Promotions can be sequences, not just single sends: several steps over several days, each with its own discount range, and a customer who buys drops out of the rest.

Order lookup accepts three references: order number, confirmation number and the carrier's tracking number. Customers rarely know which is which.
